Something small is quietly costing you clients.
And chances are you haven’t even noticed it’s missing or tricky to find.
If I was given a teabag for every time someone said to me ‘Once I get chatting to a person on a call 9 times out of 10 they become a client,’ I’d have a lifetime supply of tea. Bliss.
And then if I was given a biscuit for every time I had a wee nosey at their content and they were actually inviting their ideal client to have a call/chat with them… I’d spend a very long time WITHOUT a biscuit.
Because there’s no invite for anyone to have a call or a chat with them or if they do have one it’s so well hidden no-one is gonna find it.
All your potential client is looking for is:
A simple, clear, easy-to-find, friendly invitation to have a conversation with you.
A call. A chat. A cuppa over Zoom. (With or without biscuits).
Whatever you want to call it.
Why you’re missing out on more sales calls
They’ve been following you for a while.
They like your content.
They think you might be exactly who they need.
But they’re not quite ready to just hand over their money.
They have questions.
They want to know if you’re the right fit.
They want to feel like they’re making the right decision before they commit.
And if there’s no obvious, easy, low-pressure way to have that conversation with you they won’t go rooting around finding a way to get in touch with how to have that chat with you.
Not because they don’t want to work with you but because you didn’t make it easy enough for them to take that next step.
What’s the point of having your ‘Book a call’ option?
It removes the friction between ‘I’m interested’ and ‘Let’s talk.’
It tells your potential client a bit more about you too.
I’m approachable. I’m real. I want to hear from you. I’m happy to chat about the ways we can work together.
And remember, your job isn’t to convince people to work with you.
It’s to help them decide if you’re the right person for them.
A chat is where that decision often gets made. (As so many clients tell me but don’t make it easy for folks to have a chat with them).
What can you ‘name’ your call?
‘Book a free consultation’. If you go with this something like this, think about your audience. Is it something they’d be drawn to or is it too corporate and not human enough for them?
‘Schedule a sales call’. Well chances are this is gonna make people run for the hills. If it’s not a sales call they’re after.
Give your ‘book a call’ a name like:
‘Book a cuppa and a chat’
‘Let’s have a conversation’
‘Book a clarity call’
‘Book your discovery call’
‘Grab your 60-minute chat with me’
‘Let’s see if we’re a good fit’
Something that feels inviting, friendly and sounds like you.
Think about what feels most like you and most like the kind of conversation you actually want to have.
Then call it that.
Where can you put your call booking link?
Not somewhere where no-one can find it. You’ll be surprised how many I find hidden away in a ‘safe place’.
Your booking link needs to be everywhere your potential client might be when they decide they’re ready to talk with you.
Some of these places could be:
- Website homepage
- About page
- Services page
- At the end of every email
- Your LinkedIn bio
- At the end of relevant posts
- In your lead magnet follow-up sequence.
Make it impossible to miss because the moment someone decides they want to talk to you is rarely a ‘convenient’ moment.
They’re scrolling at 10pm
They’re reading your posts on the bus
They’re on your website for the third time trying to work up the courage.
A wee exercise to help you get more sales calls booked (cuppa and biscuit optional)
Make it easier for potential clients to start a chat with you.
If you don’t have a bookable call option yet:
Set one up this week.
Calendly, Acuity, TidyCal there are plenty of simple, free options.
Give it a name that sounds like you.
Write two or three sentences explaining what the call is, who it’s for, and what they’ll get from it.
Make it feel warm, human and no pressure
But I’ve already got one Tracey!
Do this.
Find it right now.
How easy was it to find?
If you had to think about where it was, your potential clients can’t find it either.
Now check:
- Is it on your website homepage?
- Is it on your about page?
- Is it on your services or offer page?
- Is it in your email footer?
- Is it in your LinkedIn bio?
- Do you mention it regularly in your content?
For every ‘nope’ that’s your task. Add it this week.
Then in your next piece of content, mention it.
Not salesy. Just clearly.
‘If any of this resonates and you’d love to have a chat about the ways I can help you, book a call with me here [link]’
That’s it.
Simple. Human. Easy.
Why knowing this stuff makes a difference
You can have the clearest message, the most compelling offer, and the most consistent content.
But if there’s no easy way for someone to take the next step with you…
All of that work stops just short of turning into a client.
Your potential client needs a way to get closer to you and having your bookable call is that option.
